Students preparing for a health professional program that requires significant study in biology (e.g. medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, optometry, or veterinary) should choose the Liberal Studies major and customize an interdisciplinary program of study within that major. Courses in Pre-Professional Health Sciences constitute an appropriate component in the student’s Liberal Studies program.

Students entering programs that do not require as much advanced biology (chiropractic, DPTs, OT, etc.) may choose any major. The BA in Liberal Studies is still a viable choice, but students may also wish to consider other majors. The student should work with the Program Coordinator of the Pre-Professional Health Sciences track and with the Chair of the major program as s/he selects courses.

Erica's Story

“I’ve known for a long time that I wanted to go to grad school and do occupational therapy, so I had to make sure that wherever I went for my undergraduate education would work for me…”
Students preparing for medical school or professional training in other health fields can customize an interdisciplinary program of study within the liberal studies program, selecting relevant upper-division courses in such disciplines as health sciences and behavioral science, as well as biblical literature. This Bachelor of Arts degree program offers students a unique flexibility as they prepare for the medical school application process and for the appropriate admissions examinations.
