Business Office

Florida College is seeking applicants for the position of controller. The role of controller presents an exciting opportunity to be a part of the mission of Florida College. This position exists to coordinate and oversee all accounting functions of the business office, reporting to the Chief Business Officer. Job Description

The controller coordinates and oversees all functions of the Business Office and reports directly to the Chief Business Officer. Their primary responsibility consists of financial reporting, financial audits, budget analysis and general ledger accounting, in accordance with GAAP standards. The person in this role will monitor internal control procedures to ensure accuracy and efficiency, track investment activity for endowment funds, coordinate donor contributions with the development office. This position is also responsible for managing annual audits and bank and loan activity for cash balancing and projections and preparing reports for industry and government survey collection organizations.

Essential Duties And RESPONSIBILITIEs

  • Keeps the primary books and records for Florida College, Inc.
  • Maintains supporting schedules and records all necessary journal entries and is responsible for completeness and accuracy of the general ledger
  • Produces monthly budget reports; reviews reports for reasonableness; distributes to budget managers and resolves all questions, problems, issues that are raised
  • Prepares audit schedules and all other audit preparation information, coordinate scheduling and timely completion of all annual audits
  • Reviews all transactions and monthly reports for the college’s endowment funds; works with the CBO for all changes to endowment funds as directed by board investment committee
  • Manages bank and loan activity, including monitoring cash balances, reviewing bank reconciliations, and initiating transfers as necessary
  • Reviews monthly sales, lease and telecom tax filings
  • Reviews accounting for bookstore activity and responds to any accounting-related questions from bookstore personnel
  • Reviews accounting for student billing, financial aid, and development contributions activity and responds to any accounting-related questions from billing and financial aid personnel
  • Prepares all financial reports for industry or government survey collection organizations
  • Work collaboratively with the Florida College faculty, staff and administration to contribute to the Florida College mission

Qualifications & Required Experience

  • Skills in accounting systems, MS Excel, MS Word
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle difficult situations
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent is preferred, but other related education or experience will be considered
  • Five or more years experience in an accounting-related field
  • Qualified candidates must demonstrate a dedication to God’s word and has high spiritual and moral values
  • Qualified candidates for this position must be professing Christians and be faithful, active members of a congregation of the churches of Christ and willing to support the Christian mission and purposes of the college
