Florida College honored Ralph and Paula Walker with the Friend to Youth award following the evening lecture on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019. The Friend to Youth award recognizes true servitude to Florida College and our students. It is the highest honor given by Florida College.
Both Ralph and Paula began as freshmen at Florida College in the fall of 1972. Paula is the middle of five children and the first to pursue an education at Florida College. Ralph planned to attend another university but made the last minute decision to attend Florida College. They married in 1975, and Ralph began his work as an evangelist in Louisville, Kentucky. Since then, he has preached for congregations in Cleveland, Mississippi; Concord, North Carolina; and for the last twenty-four years at the Henderson Boulevard Church of Christ in Tampa.
In addition to his effort as an evangelist, Ralph worked at Florida College for nineteen years as the public relations and alumni director. After their girls were grown, Paula worked as a secretary for different departments on campus and now teaches at Florida College Academy. Their work with the national alumni association and oversight of the local booster clubs, summer camps and the annual Labor Camp helped strengthen relationships with our alumni and volunteers. Ralph and Paula served as counselors, and even directors, of North Carolina Camp, and it was common for them to load up a van and drive their campers to see the Florida College Friends and Chorus concerts. Their servant mindset continues to encourage others to do the same.
Ralph and Paula are truly friends to youth. Florida College thanks them for their service to students and congratulates them on receiving the 2019 Friend to Youth award.
