Florida College Students Attend Alpha Chi National Convention

Five students from Florida College’s Florida Xi chapter of Alpha Chi attended the Alpha Chi National Convention in the District of Columbia on April 7-9, 2016.

Haley Bowman, Morgan Bingham, Brian Hamilton, Abigail Smith and Sara Yeager attended the event. The students were accompanied on the trip by Florida College’s vice president for academic and student affairs and the Alpha Chi faculty sponsor, Dr. Dan Petty, and his wife, Kathy Petty.

Three of the Florida College students gave presentations during the convention. Morgan Bingham presented her paper, “Henry I, ‘Lion of Justice’: A Norman Approach to English Law.” Abigail Smith spoke on the topic, “Propaganda in Print: Thomas Nast and the Birth of Modern Political Cartoons.” Sara Yeager’s presentation was entitled “Will the Earth End with Trumpets, Battles, and Dragons? The Effect of Genre on an Interpretation of the Revelation of John.”

Alpha Chi is a national, coeducational academic honor society that admits college students from all academic disciplines. Membership is limited to an institution’s top 10 percent of juniors, seniors and graduate students.

Florida College would like to congratulate these students on their academic success and thank them for representing Florida College at the national convention.
