Coming from all the way across the country in San José, California, Justin Beville made a new home for himself as a student at Florida College.
“Florida College made me feel like I was at home,” Justin said. “I still miss home obviously, but I don’t think about it as much as I thought I would.”
Justin began his freshman year of college studying computer science at another institution, but quickly discovered it wasn’t the right fit for him. He decided to make a change prior to his sophomore year and came to Florida College to study in the liberal studies program and pursue a career in physical therapy. While there’s a big difference between computer science and physical therapy, Justin feels like he has found his passion.
“It fits me a lot better,” Justin said. “I never thought I could do the sciences, but I don’t know why I doubted myself because now I love it.”
Florida College’s math and science department offers Justin an unparalleled level of personalized attention as he prepares for graduate school and medical work. He has the opportunity to connect with his professors and build relationships with them in and out of the classroom. They are people he can go to for help with assignments, scheduling questions, career advice and even spiritual questions.
It is encouraging for Justin to hear those same professors teach science from the perspective of a biblical worldview. Regardless of the lesson, everything is founded on faith and the understanding that God is the Creator of the world.
“I’ve been able to grow as a student and as a Christian being here,” Justin said. “I can learn in a way that strengthens my faith, and that makes me more confident entering the medical field.”
But the biblical foundation at Florida College extends beyond the classroom. The same spiritual environment includes his involvement on campus as a member of Zeta Phi Epsilon, a telecounselor and a Camp Friend. Being constantly surrounded by peers who are also Christians encourages Justin to grow spiritually.
“Really, being here has just helped me to become a better person,” Justin said.
That’s how Justin Beville is living His way.
