Florida College recognized Veterans Day with a special assembly following this morning’s chapel devotion. Justin Berss, a senior in the biblical studies department and an army veteran, spoke to the student body about the lessons he learned during his time in the military, particularly the importance of service.
“One of the most important things I learned throughout my time in the military was the value of service,” Justin said.
Justin joined the United States Army in 2009 and attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where he also completed advanced individual training to become a motor transport operator. Justin was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, before being deployed to Tikrit, Iraq, where he was stationed at Contingency Operating Base Speicher for the next 11 months. During that time, Justin served as the senior radar operator, tracking all incoming rocket and mortar rounds that hit their base. Justin completed his tour in Iraq in 2011 and achieved the rank of a corporal before ending his military career in 2012.
Florida College thanks Justin Berss for speaking at the Veterans Day assembly and for his dedicated service to the U.S. military.
