The fourth annual Florida College Dry Creek Camp auction was a tremendous success, raising approximately $65,000 to benefit prospective Florida College students in a single morning!
Each year since 2011, the event has been organized by staff and supporters of the Florida College Dry Creek Camp to raise money and honor a member of their camp community.
Muffy Garrett, one of the event’s organizers, said, “The goal of the auction is to have fun, honor a deserving recipient and provide scholarships for students attending Florida College.”
This year’s auction was held on Aug. 15, 2015, in honor of Dee and Norma Bowman for their many years of service to Dry Creek Camp. The Bowmans were toasted for their service and roasted to entertain the event’s 170 guests. In addition to the toast and roast, the event included brunch, a live and silent auction, and a musical performance by some of the Bowmans’ family members. John Kilgore, the camp director, and Russ Bowman, the son of Dee and Norma Bowman and a camp supporter, also spoke to guests about Dry Creek Camp.
The funds raised at the event will be directed to helping prospective Florida College students attend Falcon Days and providing scholarships for accepted students. A portion of the money will also be used to endow a scholarship for Florida College students. The endowed scholarship will be named in honor of John Kilgore, who has served Dry Creek Camp for 40 years.
Events like the Florida College Dry Creek Camp auction are hosted all across the nation throughout the year and organized completely by volunteers. Adam Olson, the director of alumni relations at Florida College, had the opportunity to attend the auction and was thrilled to see the support from such dedicated volunteers.
“I am pleased the auction was so successful,” Olson said. “We have a great group of volunteers who organized the event, and I was really touched by the excitement and generosity of the guests who attended.”
Florida College would like to thank the volunteers and guests of the auction for their support of this event and, ultimately, Florida College students.
