Elizabeth Hammontree always knew she was going to be a Falcon. Growing up down the road from Florida College, she saw the connections, friendships and memories her family and other alumni had the opportunity to make but wanted to have her own experience.

“Every person is different and every experience is different,” Elizabeth said. “I had to push myself to not become attached to something I had come in knowing and just to be my own person and take advantage of every opportunity, investing myself in any area I wanted to grow.”

Having a passion for meeting new people, Elizabeth hopes to become an occupational therapist. She is majoring in liberal studies with components in communication, physical education and behavioral science. She believes it is fascinating to know so much about the human body God created.

“I want to help people and cultivate relationships with my patients. I think the whole human body speaks to God’s design, and I love studying it especially here from Christian professors,” Elizabeth said.

Elizabeth adds to her class load by serving as a Supplemental Instructor for anatomy, math lab instructor and a member of the honor society Alpha Chi. Elizabeth likes that at Florida College, the people you meet in classes are on the same track academically and allow you to combine academics with social life.

In addition to her studies, she has wasted no time becoming involved on campus. She played on the women’s soccer team for two years, served as president of the society Zeta Phi Epsilon and traveled for two summers as a Florida College Camp Friend. Elizabeth was also a freshman class officer and a member of the service organization Alpha Club, and she is now president of the Student Body Government Association.

“The more you invest in Florida College the more you get out of it. When you invest in different things, the more people you meet, more memories you create and better relationships you build,” Elizabeth said.

The leadership skills Elizabeth has developed at Florida College have pushed her outside of her comfort zone. From Camp Friends to Student Body Government, she has had opportunities to become a servant leader allowing her to lead by example. She has made challenging friends who have pushed her to grow and not allowed her to be complacent.

“I have friends I am striving to be like because they are striving to be like Christ. Florida College allows people to connect so easily and so quickly because you have the same goal,” Elizabeth said. “They are people that are going to make me better for the rest of my life.”

That’s how Elizabeth Hammontree is leading His way.
