Paris, Normandy and Brittany

May 4-12, 2009

Imagine strolling down the Champs-Elysees, climbing to the top of the Arc d’ Triomphe, viewing the City of Lights from atop the Eiffel Tower, probing Mona Lisa’s smile at the Louvre, or gazing upon the gothic spires, vaulted ceilings and gargoyles of Notre Dame Cathedral. Imagine exploring a Norman village, meandering down the cobblestone streets of a 14th-century fishing port, or climbing the top of the 8th-century monastery of Mont. St. Michel. Let history come alive as you follow Joan of Arc’s path in Rouen and pay tribute to the sacrifices made by our men and boys in Normandy.

These are but a few of the exciting sites you’ll see on our 9-day tour of Paris, Normandy, and Brittany in May 2009. Those desiring a more in-depth look at Paris can join us on a 2-day stay behind to leisurely peruse the Musee D’Osay, a museum housing one of the finest and most extensive collections of Impressionists’ paintings; the Conciergerie, where prisoners of the French Revolution spent their last hours; Les Invalides, a previous military hospital now part of a large complex that includes a museum of France’s military history and Napoleon’s sarcophagus, and other sites of interest.

Regardless of whether art or history is your forte, you’ll find plenty to see and do on this tour, our first to the Normandy coast since Florida College began its Travel Abroad program. Join humanities and English professors Norene Thayer and Loretta Atherton on this exciting tour.
