Instrumental EnsemblesDid you love being in high school band or orchestra? No matter what instrument you play, Florida College has a group for you.
The Florida College Wind Ensemble performs some of the best literature written for the medium, most of it written for and recorded by professional ensembles. Whether you were a member of an All-State or honor band—as many of our members were—or just loved making music with your friends in high school, there is a role for you to play in this ensemble. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students who come from different majors and different parts of the country and the world, to join together to study and perform advanced music with fellow Christians. The Wind Ensemble and the Florida College Chorus combine each spring for an extended tour that allows everyone to share each ensemble’s music and the FC experience with students and families all over the country. When the concert attire comes off and the Pep Band uniforms go on, there is nothing to compare with the excitement of the Falcon basketball team taking the floor and the stands rocking to the beat of the Falcon Pep Band. You don’t want to miss it!
Love jazz? Then you’ll really love the Florida College Jazz Ensemble. This special group sets a different beat in campus performances for the Florida College community. They perform on concerts with the Wind Ensemble, as well as concerts for prospective students visiting campus during Falcon Days; they also perform two nights of holiday concerts in December and special late-night concerts in the spring. The eclectic mix of classic jazz and pumped-up rhythms has been known to produce spontaneous, involuntary feet tapping on numerous occasions. The Jazz Ensemble and Wind Ensemble entertain packed houses of campus visitors during the annual Lectures week performance. Both groups are under the direction of Mr. Brian Rainwater.
Mr. Jon Bassett leads the String Ensemble in several performances of classical music each year. They perform music for smaller ensembles on their own, but also combine with wind players and guest string players to perform pieces written for full orchestra—including the occasional large performances that combine chorus and orchestra forces.
