Another Mitchell Joins FC Staff

Joining husband Robb ’91 and sister-in-law Kelly ’87, Michelle Mitchell ’90 is the latest Mitchell to be hired by Florida College. She is taking over as assistant to Vice President H.E. “Buddy” Payne.

That position has been held for the last eight years by Paula Walker ’74, who is leaving the office for the classroom. Mrs. Walker, who started at FC in the institutional advancement department in 1994, will be a full-time student in FC’s elementary education program this fall.

Mrs. Mitchell grew up in Texas, and attended Florida College from 1988-1990. While at FC she met her husband Robb, who is the head coach for the Falcons basketball team. They have two children, Alexander (11) and Aidan (8).

“I was looking for opportunities,” Mrs. Mitchell said, “and I heard that this was available.” Having been at FC as a student, and also working as secretary for the original capital campaign in 1996, she knew this was a place she would enjoy working.

“I wanted to work in a good environment, and I was looking for a challenge,” she said. “And I’ve known Dr. Payne since I was here in school, and I very much respect him and trust him. I thought, if he was my boss then that would be wonderful.”

She is looking forward to being involved in a different part of the school, getting to know more students, and interacting more regularly with faculty members.

“You obviously want to enjoy what you do,” she said. “It’s been nice. It’s going to be a whole different aspect of how we’re involved in Florida College.”
