New Business Administration
Degree Officially Accredited

Florida College continues its academic progress with the accreditation of a new bachelor of science degree in business administration. This is the fifth bachelor degree offered by the College.

Senior Tim Hanlon takes notes in Phil Yoho's Human Resource Management class on Wednesday, Jan. 16.

President C.G. "Colly" Caldwell received a letter Monday from the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools that confirmed their approval of the new degree program.

"I want to especially credit Buddy Payne and Phil Yoho who have worked so hard on the proposal and who are doing the day-to-day development preparation for this program," President Caldwell said.

Recently hired to develop the business program, department chair Phil Yoho says he is excited about the accreditation. "Now that we are fully accredited, we can continue to build the program and other opportunities associated with having a business program."

The degree is intended to be well-rounded, offering theoretical, analytical and practical skills. Yoho's goal is to place 100 percent of the students in jobs before graduation. "The business world needs more students grounded in solid Christian principles," he said.

The biblical foundation at Florida College is one of the reasons senior Tim Hanlon chose to stay at Florida College for four years. He will be among the first graduates in the new degree program in 2009.

"I am definitely more excited now that the business program has officially been approved," Hanlon said. "I feel relieved now that it is done and am excited to know that it's really happening and that I'm a part of it."

Business department chair Phil Yoho instructs his Human Resource Management class on Wednesday, Jan. 16.
