Volleyball signs first recruit for 2009 season
The Florida College Lady Falcons will graduate four seniors while losing two sophomores who will transfer after this year, leaving a lot of openings for the 2009 team. Head coach Donna Parimore ’83 has already begun actively recruiting and has signed incoming freshman Alison Bonner from Dumas, Tex. Bonner’s sister, Jennifer (Bonner) Reynolds, played for the Falcons in 2000 and 2001 and was a powerful outside hitter. A 5'10" middle blocker, Bonner started all four years for Dumas High School. Dumas played for a state championship in 2006 (they were state runner-ups in 2005). Their 2008 season is still in progress, but Bonner has been honored at several tournaments and was a 2008 Amarillo Globe News Panhandle Athlete of the Week. Coach Parimore expects that Bonner will be a significant player. “Although I have not seen much of Alison’s play, I can tell she is quick and explosive. She comes with a wealth of experience and is used to being on high level winning teams,” said Parimore. Bonner is excited to play for the Lady Falcons. “I love playing volleyball and I know Coach Parimore has the knowledge and experience to help me to continue to develop as a volleyball player and to take our team to national championships,” said Bonner. She has been at the top of her class all four years of high school and has received over eight academic awards. She was also senior class president and National Honor Society Vice-President this year. Parimore is pleased with Bonner’s academic performance. “She not only excels on the court, but in the classroom as well. I am thrilled she chose Florida College,” said Parimore. Bonner explained why she chose FC. “I chose Florida College because of what I learned about FC when my sister and brothers attended. They received great educations, made life-long friends, met their future mates, and enjoyed a great social and spiritual environment where all the professors are Christians,” said Bonner. |
