Biblical Studies

Graduation Requirements

Students planning to graduate from Florida College with the Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies must complete the following requirements:

1. Entrance Requirements

Students must have completed the Associate in Arts degree at Florida College or its equivalent to be eligible for admission to the Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies degree program. A written application must be submitted to the chairman of the Biblical Studies department prior to registering for a full course load in upper level work, but not before the second semester of the sophomore year.

2. Requirements in Biblical Studies

Students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Biblical Studies must complete at least 36 hours in the field of Biblical Literature, 30 hours of which must be at the 3000–4000 level and which must include REL 3910 and REL 4217 or 4247. Upper level Biblical Languages courses may be counted toward the major unless the student chooses Biblical Languages as a minor (these may also count as a daily Bible). Special one-hour courses offered as daily Bible for non-Bible majors may not be counted toward the major.

3. Language Requirement

Each student must complete two semesters of Beginning Greek (GRE 2040–2041) in addition to the required 36 hours in Biblical Literature. It is recommended that this requirement be completed during the student’s sophomore year.

4. Requirements for the Minor

Each student must complete an approved minor in an area of study other than Biblical Literature. Minors available for Biblical Studies majors include the following areas: Church History/Religious Thought; Biblical Languages; Business; Education; English; History; Humanities; Music; and Speech Communication.

5. Total Semester Hours

Students must complete a total of 124 semester hours of accredited college work for the degree with at least 50 hours at the 3000–4000 level.

6. Quality of Work

A minimum quality point average of 2.0 overall and on all upper level work is required.

7. Residency

Students must complete a minimum of 32 hours of their upper level work at Florida College, at least 16 of which must be completed after the semester in which the student has earned a cumulative total of at least 90 semester hours.

8. Graduation Ceremony

Candidates for the Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies must participate in graduation exercises.
