Lady Falcon soccer plays in two home games
Freshman Mychal Goad looks for a teammate to pass to against Ave Maria University October 3.
Florida Memorial University (3-4-1) was the first match of the week for the women’s soccer team. At the Tuesday evening game, FC held strong during the first half, ending it 0-0. They played well again in the second half, but two breakdowns cost them the game, losing 0-2. The next game was against Ave Maria University (3-3-2), who tied 3-3 with the Lady Falcons earlier in the season. FC had many shots on the Gyrene goal, but only one fell through. In the first half, the team had a breakaway and sophomore Savanna Yancey was credited with the assist to senior Katee Puterbaugh’s cross into the corner of the goal. In the second, FC was dominating with possession until sophomore sweeper Hanna Krek received a red card trying to stop an AMU breakaway and had to leave the game. This left the team a player down for the remainder of the game. Ave Maria took advantage and scored on an outside shot over freshman goalkeeper Maggie Day. The game ended in a 1-1 tie. Assistant coach Steven Sinclair ’09 recognized the team’s efforts. “They worked hard even when we were a man down. It’s tough to win in that situation, especially when it was this hot,” said Sinclair. The women will not be playing again until next Saturday at 6:00 PM against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (6-2-1), who the Falcons drew 2-2 with on September 4. On Monday, October 12, they will play Emmanuel College (2-5). Both games will be on their home field. |
