Women’s soccer improves vs. NAIA foe

Sophomore Lindsey Barnes faces off with a member of the Southeastern Fire during the September 1 game.

After a 9-0 loss to Southeastern University on September 1, the Lady Falcons entered their September 17 meeting with Southeastern (6-0) hoping to build off that game. Head Coach Tim Hanlon ‘09 changed the team’s formation and focused on defense and low pressure. The first goal of the game came off an own goal and the Falcons would hold Southeastern to just one more goal in that half. The final score was 4-0. Southeastern is undefeated so far this season and has outscored its opponents 27-0.

The Lady Falcons traveled to Clearwater Christian College (4-5) on Tuesday. Freshman goalkeeper Maggie Day held the Cougars to one goal during the game, a difficult far post shot, and she had ten saves for the team. FC had five shots on the CCC goal, but none fell, ending the game with a 1-0 loss for the Falcons. The Falcons were also playing with out the FC women’s all-time leading scorer, senior Katee Puterbaugh.

The team will return home for five straight games starting with Florida Memorial University (2-2-1) of the NAIA on Tuesday, September 29 at 5:00 PM
