Women’s soccer draws with ABAC
Sophomore Savanna Yancey fights for the ball with a Southeastern Fire player during the September 1 game.
Sophomore Hanna Krek led the comeback charge for the Falcons as they tied with Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College September 4 in Tifton, Ga. The team scouted ABAC, and were able to limit their all-time leading scorer during the game. ABAC scored one goal in each half. Florida College remained scoreless until late in the second half, when Krek scored off a free kick outside of the box. Brought up from her usual position as sweeper, Krek played the last few minutes on the offensive side and scored again with just a few minutes left in the game. Senior Katee Puterbaugh scored the second goal which tied the game at 2-2. Head Coach Tim Hanlon ’09 was pleased. “I felt like we outplayed them during the game and brought a good comeback.” On Sunday, the team fell to Piedmont College (2-0) in Demorest, Ga. The Lady Falcons held the Lions to 2-0 in the first half. Once again, FC was limited by their low numbers. With two injuries in the second half, the team was left with one bench player to finish off the game. Piedmont outlasted FC and won 5-0. Looking ahead to the match against Warner University, Krek said, “This week in practice we need to focus on working offensively and moving the ball around on the field.” The women’s team (0-4-1) will play in a home doubleheader with the men’s team against Warner University (1-2) on Friday, September 11 at 6:00 PM and will travel to Ave Maria University (1-0) on Tuesday, September 15 to play at 5:00 PM. |
