Freshman Alison Bonner blocks a kill from Clearwater Christian College on September 8.

Undefeated Clearwater Christian College (8-0) came to Conn Gymnasium September 8 to challenge the FC volleyball team. The Lady Falcons started out strong and defeated the Cougars in game one, 25-20. They came out ahead in game two as well, but then CCC took a five point lead at 22-17 and finished ahead, 25-18. Clearwater took their momentum from game two and controlled all of the third game with an early 12-4 lead before finishing 25-11.

FC regained their focus and came back to play in game four. The score stayed within one or two points the whole match until CCC took the lead at 24-21. Senior Marissa Paulin pulled up with a strong kill on the Clearwater middle and brought the score to 24-22. Paulin hit two subsequent ace serves on Clearwater to tie the game before the team lost the service. Clearwater scored again and then won the game on an ace serve that whipped past the Lady Falcons. Freshman Kerri Taylor had 12 kills against Clearwater and Paulin had eight.

Following the game, Head Coach Donna Parimore ’83 was positive. “Believe it or not, I was encouraged tonight. Game three was a spanking, but we came back in game four and played stronger and almost pulled out a win.”

Freshman Jenny Moorer commented on aspects of the Falcon play. “I think the girls did a really good job with serve receive. Our passing went well, but they were really good at blocking our hits.”
