Late goal forces heartbreaker tie for Falcons

Brian Kelly drives away from Emmanuel defenders on October 12.

Webber International JV traveled to Temple Terrace on Tuesday evening to face off with the men’s soccer team. The Falcons began with an early 2-0 lead after goals by freshmen David Watson and Austin Parimore. Two breakdowns allowed goals for the Warriors and the half ended 2-2. The FC defense played well throughout the game, causing numerous offsides calls on Webber. Freshman Chris Redfield put the Falcons back into the lead after he scored on a penalty kick because of a WIU yellow card inside the box. With minutes left in the game, it looked like the Falcons would be celebrating their first win of the season. Webber pushed all eleven players into offensive positions and scored off a goal forced from Falcon keeper sophomore Justin Alvarez, who had possession of the ball. No call was made by the referees, and Webber settled back in to take the 3-3 tie.

The men will play Emmanuel College (1-4-2) on Monday at 4:00 PM following the women’s match against Emmanuel at 2:00 PM. Thursday evening at 7:00 PM is the last home game of the season for the team. They will play Clearwater Christian College (8-2-2), who they fell to 0-2 in the season opener.
