Finnegan provides lone goal as Falcons drop two

Ave Maria University (5-4) traveled to Temple Terrace on Saturday to face the men’s soccer team. The Gyrenes outscored the Falcons 7-1 in the rainy afternoon game. Freshman Richard Finnegan, the only international player on the FC team (from Dublin, Ireland) scored the lone goal for FC.

After the game, assistant coach Steven Sinclair ’09 commented, “We played hard, we just had small breakdowns that allowed in the six goals.”

FC came closer when they played in the second half of a doubleheader against Florida Memorial University (3-3-2) on Tuesday. They let in an early goal, but the team played well the rest of the half and ended 1-0. They looked a lot stronger in this match and had several close shots on the FMU goal, but lost 3-0.

Senior defender David Barker felt the team showed a lot of improvement. “We had better chemistry compared to past games, and our communication improved, but we still need to polish up,” said Barker.

The men will play at home against the Webber International junior varsity on Tuesday at 7:00 PM.
