Runners place fourth in third meet

Senior Stephen Rouse runs in the first mile of the Florida Runners Invitational on October 2.

The men’s cross country team earned fourth place out of nine teams in the Florida Runners Invitational 5K on Saturday. Senior Stephen Rouse led the team, placing 21st with a time of 16:54. Following Rouse were sophomores Alex Hubartt (22nd, 16:56), Adam Smelser (42nd, 18:18), Eric Parker (48th, 18:34), Brian Higdon (53rd, 18:44). All the members of the men’s team set new personal records for a 5K.

The women also ran a 5K at the Florida Runners Invitational, placing tenth. Leading the Falcons was freshman Jessica Jones who placed 68th with a time of 23:17. Also contributing to the team score was sophomores Emily Nelson (78th, 24:18), Ashley Lewis (82nd, 25:13), Kayleigh Palmer (97th, 27:56), and Georgia Colvin (98th, 28:24).

The weather at this meet was cooler than previous ones. “It felt great outside and was much easier to breathe at this meet, so I felt a lot better running,” said Lewis.

The next meet for the Falcons is the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic next Saturday in Kissimmee, Fla. beginning at 7:30 AM.
