First up for the basketball team this week was Trinity College on Tuesday night. The game began close, but the Falcons made some mistakes, missing easy shots. They took a solid lead of six points with 6:30 left in the first half. Trinity began to commit turnovers and FC pushed their lead to 45-34 with 1:25 left in the half. The Falcons began the second half slowly and the Tigers took a one-point lead four minutes in. However, FC tightened up their game and took a 72-62 lead at 10:20 and maintained their lead for the rest of the game, winning 103-92.
Freshman Jordan Mitchell was the leading scorer with 30 points. “We took some bad shots and we gave up a lot of points—more than we should have —but we also forced a lot of turnovers. Anytime we score 100 points, we should win,” said Mitchell.
Thursday night, the team was matched up with Florida Christian College. The Falcons led for most of the game and played with fewer turnovers than on Tuesday. The final score was 74-64 and Mitchell again led the team in scoring with 25.
Following the game, head coach Robb Mitchell ’91 commented, “Jesse (Hastings) was a beast on the boards ... he had about 17 rebounds. That kind of effort is what it takes to win games.”
This weekend the men will travel to Pensacola Christian College on Friday night and Trinity Baptist College on Saturday.
Falcon supporters are helping put a new floor in Conn Gymnasium. Some have made a pledge to donate for every three-point shot made this season. Help make a Score For The Floor.
