Road losses begin 2010 for Falcons

The Falcons basketball team began 2010 with a January 14 game at Clearwater Christian College (4-7). The Cougars played strong and had success with their plays, and the Falcons had a hard time hitting shots. The game went into overtime, but FC ultimately lost 86–79. Freshman Charles Murphy led in scoring with 18 points, and senior Blake Elrod and junior Jesse Hastings each had nine rebounds.

On Saturday the team traveled to Saint Leo University (8-10), where the Lions shot well and played a very physical game. With a deep bench, they were able to keep fresh players on the floor. By the end of the first half, they had a good run that set them up for a strong second half lead.

Senior Blake Elrod commented on the first half run by Saint Leo. “We couldn’t catch up,” he said, “because we shot poorly from the arc as they continued to play hard and knock down their shots.”

Freshman Jordan Mitchell led the scoring against Saint Leo with 14 points.

Florida College basketball continues its season this week with three home games. They will play Southeastern University (9-10) on Tuesday, Pensacola Christian College (3-13) on Thursday, and Webber International University (9-6) on Saturday. All games will be played at 7:00 PM.

Falcon supporters are helping put a new floor in Conn Gymnasium. Some have made a pledge to donate for every three-point shot made this season. Help make a Score For The Floor.
