Florida College Mourns Chris Glover and Joella Pickup
Florida College is mourning the loss of two dear friends, Mrs. Chris Glover and Mrs. Joella Pickup.
Mildred “Chris” Glover was born on March 4, 1930 in Concordia, Kan. In 1984 she arrived as Florida College’s latest dorm mother, where she lived with, mentored and lived as an example for the ladies of Boswell Hall (South) for 11 years. Mrs. Glover passed away on February 21, 2014 in Tyler, Texas. She is survived by her eight children, Connie, Ricky, Tim, Darrel, Dean, Randy, Carl, Nolan and Glen, and many grandchildren.
Joella Pickup was born on March 24, 1927 in Breckenridge, Texas. She arrived at Florida College in 1972, which began her 22-year tenure as a voice instructor. She quickly became a favorite of her students, many of whom went on to achieve awards for outstanding vocal performance. Mrs. Pickup passed away on February 23, 2014, and is survived by her husband of 67 years, Harry Pickup, Jr., and their sons, Harry III, Randall and David, as well as 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by son Marty and daughter Donna Pickup Finney.
Florida College was undoubtedly made a better place by the presence of these two servants. Though they have passed, we take comfort in knowing they have received their reward.
