Lady Falcons Record First Win In Program History

December 1, 2012

On their first extended road trip, the Lady Falcons came out with a huge win against Tennessee Temple Crusaders. The win is the first in Florida College women’s basketball history.

Senior Jenny Moorer led the way during the first half and set the tone for a first half of exceptional offensive efficiency in which the Lady Falcons shot 54% from the field. Moorer went 5/7 from behind the arc and finished the half with 18 points.

At halftime the Falcons were up, 34-29

The intensity of the game jumped up considerably in the second half. In the half’s opening minutes, junior Danae Roy, a starter and key offensive player for the Falcons, suffered a knee injury and was sidelined the rest of the game. Roy was replaced by freshman Hannah Finley, who came up big off the bench and closed out the half (7 pts, 3 reb, 1 stl).

Down the stretch, freshman Molly Lamb took over. She got to the line at will and made the Crusaders pay for it, hitting an outstanding 12/13 free-throws.

Midway through the second half, the Crusaders initiated a full-court press, which slowed the game and forced some turnovers. Still, the Lady Falcons never gave up the lead.

In the closing minutes, the Lady Falcons were up 12 and the game seemed secured until the game horn started malfunctioning. The technical difficulty delayed the game 15 minutes. The Crusaders, apparently re-energized by the delay, game out aggressively and cut the lead to six with two minutes remaining. But the Falcons played conservatively and held on to win, 68-59.

The Lady Falcons produced their highest level of offensive efficiency of the season, shooting 46% from the field and 77% from the line.

Jenny Moorer and Molly Lamb combined for 41 points on 59% shooting.

The Lady Falcons play their next tournament game Saturday, December 1 at 4 p.m. against Hiawassee College.
