Lady Falcons Host Season Opener

November 14, 2012

Tuesday, November 13 marked the first official game in Florida College women’s basketball.

The Lady Falcons were outmatched by an experienced Hillsborough Community College squad, but showed promise through excellent ball movement and outstanding interior defense.

Hillsborough started the game with a 10-0 run, smothering the Lady Falcons’ offense with an aggressive man-to-man defense. Freshman Molly Lamb broke the run with a three-pointer, kick starting the Falcons’ offense.

The Lady Falcons were down by as much as 25, but chipped away at the lead by slowing down the game and getting to the line. On the defensive end, senior Kerri Taylor dominated the paint (7 blocks) and forced the Hawks to score from the perimeter.

The Falcons were down at the half, 37-20.

Hillsborough adjusted to Taylor’s presence in the paint, knocking down five 3-pointers in the second half and shooting an overall 54% from behind the arc.

Overall, the Lady Falcons were outmatched by a seasoned team of recruits from a years-long program. The final score was 62-43, Hillsborough. Their next game is Friday, November 16 at home against Johnson & Wales University.
