Florida College Hosts Veterans Day Program

November 9, 2012

On Friday, November 9 Florida College hosted a special Veterans Day program at the conclusion of its daily assembly, honoring many faculty and staff members and local residents for their service.

The veterans present among faculty and staff were Dr. Brian Crispell, Dr. Doug Barlar, Ray Hinds, Buddy Clark and René Anderson.

The program featured Brigadier General Scott Hartsell, 31-year Marine and current Commanding General of the 4th Marine Division, and Louis Sharp, a World War II veteran. Gen. Hartsell interviewed Mr. Sharp on his experiences overseas where he served as a fighter pilot and a member of the USS Bismarck Sea. Mr. Sharp shared the challenges he faced as a Christian in military service, and recalled the day his vessel endured a kamikaze attack. After the war, Mr. Sharp served as an evangelist for 62 years. Today he worships with his daughter, Becky Cawthon, at the Livingston Avenue congregation in Lutz, Fla.

We thank Gen. Scott Hartsell, Louis Sharp and veterans everywhere for their service and sacrifice on our nation’s behalf.
