Cross-Country Cruises in Creaky Bones, Looks Forward to Nationals
On October 25 Florida College’s cross-country team traveled to St. Petersburg to compete in the Creaky Bones Invitational. The race marked the greatest success in the program’s history and featured record-setting times in both men’s and women’s categories.
Melissa Cowley placed second in her age grouping and fourth in the overall women’s grouping with a time of 20:40. Karen Hunsicker placed first in her age grouping and third in the overall women’s grouping with a time of 20:29. Both freshmen runners previously broke the Florida College women’s 5K record, with Karen setting the new one at 20:23.
Bryan Garcia, also a freshman, placed first overall with a time of 16:13, shattering the former Florida College men’s 5K record. He also became the first Falcon to place first overall in an event.
The team looks to carry this momentum to the USCAA National Tournament on Friday, November 9 in Lake Placid, N.Y.
